9 Months of Pregnancy in One Series Of Pictures
Proyecto Pyokko is a 40 week project of mirror selfies made by an Argentinian photographer, Sophie Starzenski when she was pregnant. Her series looks at physical changes women go through while carrying a child.
There may be morning sickness starting around the sixth week. Mom’s breasts often swell and hurt, these symptoms usually go away in the 2nd trimester (weeks 13-28).
Mom’s fully aware of her body changing inside and out. Her breasts are still super tender, and she may feel a bit fatigued and bloated than before pregnancy.
If nausea and morning sickness were a problem they’re likely gone now, but replaced by “food cravings”. . . pickles, ice-cream? Mom may have developed an intense disliking, alongside a keen sense of smell of certain foods associated to morning sickness.
Mom goes to the bathroom more due to baby pushing up against her bladder. She may need to take naps during the day due to fatigue.
Baby can be felt moving more, it may first seem like gas bubbles, but soon turns to distinct “kicks and turns”.
Her skin itches due to stretching and weight gain. Baby is starting to press on her bladder even more, waking her up at night to go the bathroom.
There’s likely increased energy levels for mom now and she’s got the “nesting” instinct. She feels the urge to clean and plan for baby’s arrival.
The final weeks are exciting and mom starts to get anxious for her baby’s birth. It’s the most physically uncomfortable phase of pregnancy and the hardest to sleep.
As tough as child-birthing is, it’s always worth it when baby arrives! So sweet and precious!
